What an awesome and under-appreciated place... we spent half a day driving the scenic loop from the south section (with a few short walks to appreciate the scenery). We saw prairie dogs, and numerous bison... and even some wild horses.
Interesting to read about the history - Teddy R. wasn't from this area but he came out to hunt for one of the last North American Bison... yet somehow this resulted in him dedicating a good chunk of his political power to preserving the land and he's known as a conservationist.
We actually saw them putting up the sign for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library - and apparently Trump came out here only a day after our journey and got into an argument with a hologram of Teddy ;-)
Recommend this park - it was a cool place. We were planning to camp here but due to the oil delay and reroute we were behind schedule... enjoyed our time and then continued driving east on 94 towards Bismarck.
Side Note: For me (Alex) North Dakota marked a landmark in that I've now officially visited all 50 US states!
